Funeral services for Rachel E. Barnes, 86, of Silvis, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, where she had been a lifetime member. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a liturgy service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Barnes died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, Alzheimer's Association, or the Parkinson's Foundation.
Rachel Lambert was born Sept. 25, 1920, the daughter of Oscar and Alida DeCroock Lambert. She married Rex Barnes Dec. 4, 1948, in East Moline. He died May 17, 1995.
She had worked at the former Licorice Factory, Moline, McLaughlin Moline and the former John Deere Malleable, East Moline.
Rachel enjoyed reading, crocheting and doing needlework but most of all, she loved spending time with her granddaughters.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Wiedenhoeft, Geneseo, Carolyn Barnes, Silvis; granddaughters, Krista and Kara Wiedenhoeft; sister, Judy Lambert, East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Mary VanDeVoorde.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped take care of Rachel over the past few years, especially those at Heartland Health Care.
