Lloyd V. Boyum, 84, of Adams, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Adams Health Care Center, Adams.

He was born March 11, 1920, in Adams, to John and Anna (Huseby) Boyum.

He graduated from the Adams High School and went to work at the Adams Creamery until enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the First Infantry. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Following his time in the Army, he graduated from the Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis and returned to Adams to become the co-owner of a painting business and the Standard Oil Station. In 1954, he began working for the U.S. Postal Department in Adams and then in Rochester, where he worked until his retirement in the early 1980s.

Lloyd was a member of The Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams Post #146 American Legion and the Society of the First Infantry.

He enjoyed spending time with family.

Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Orville Hegseth, Lake City; sisters-in-law, Orpha Boyum, Eagan; Sylvia Boyum, Winona; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Stanley and Eugene; sister, Marion; and infant sister, Gladys.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at the funeral home and Thursday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Rev. Shari A. Mason officiating. Casket bearers will be Sidney Hegseth, Steven Hegseth, David Boyum, Richard Boyum, Lawrence Goergen and Herbert Schaefer.

Interment: Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams with military rites by Adams Post #146 American Legion.

Lloyd Boyum was born on March 11, 1920, to John and Annie Boyum. He was one of five children. A sister, Joyce, of Spring Grove, MN, a brother Gene of California, Marion, Art, and Stan are deceased.

He was baptized and confirmed in Little Cedar Church which he has always belonged to.

Lloyd graduated from Adams High School in 1937. He served in the United States Army for four years. He spent 3-1/2 years overseas and served in twelve different countries. Lloyd worked for the United State Postal Service for fifteen years.

He enjoys sports and traveling.
