JEROME CALKINS was born in Illinois on April 12, 1840 to John Calkins and Ruth Crawford Calkins. He had six brothers and four sisters. Jerome enlisted in the Civil War on Aug. 27, 1861, Company G, 11th Wisconsin Inf. He was promoted Corporal and Sergeant for meritorious services. He was wounded at Bayou Cache and at Ft. Blakely, Alabama and died from these wound on June 27, 1865 in Arena, Wisconsin.
