John Albert Johansen was
born November 25, 1876 in
Hundtoft, Fyen, Denmark. He
was baptized and confirmed in
the Lutheran faith in March,
1891 at Stenstrup. At the age
of 19 years he came to this
country and worked in Chicago
for a short time, later moving
to the Cedar Falls and
Fredsville, Iowa area. He moved
to Newell, Iowa from those
localities in 1904.
On June 1, 1906, he was
united in marriage to Madsine
Mikkelsen at Nain Lutheran
church in Newell. To the union
four daughters and five sons
were born; Anna Knack, Axel
Johansen, Eleonora Nelsen. of
Newell, Iowa; Carl Johansen
of Sioux City, Iowa; Agnes
Mohr of Lake City, Iowa; Theadore
Johansen of Rochester,
New York; and Richard Johansen
of Des Moines, Iowa are
the surviving children. A son
and a daughter preceded him
in death. A brother, Walter
Johansen of Nevada, Iowa, also
survives.
In November, 1955, Mrs. Johansen
passed away. For the
past few month, Mr. Johansen
had been living in Sioux City
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Johansen. On April 30,
1961, Mr. Johansen suffered a
heart attack and was hospitalized
for five weeks at Lutheran
hospital in Sioux City, and
transferred to Methodist Manor
at Storm Lake, Iowa. Last
Saturday morning he entered
Buena Vista County Hospital
at Storm Lake, departing this
life on Father's day. Sunday
evening, June 18, 1961.
