David Hamilton was born in Georgia 22 April 1832. On 18 January 1855, he married his wife Mildred V. Gower.On May 21 1862, David enlisted as a Private with Company I, 16th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army Northern Virginia, C.S.A. Gwinnett County Georgia. On 19 October 1864 in Virginia during the Battle of Cedar Run (Cedar Creek), David was wounded and as a result lost a finger. He is shown on Confederate Pension Application as recieving $5.00 a year for his service and loss. Muster Roll listing as: Hamilton, D. -- Private - May 21, 1862. Wounded in finger, necessitating amputation, in 1864. Roll dated February 1, 1865, last on file, shows him in hospital, wounded. No later record.
