Dale E. Olive, 70,of Alton, died at 4:36 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1988, at Alton Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Olive was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He had been a Boy Scout leader and explorer-adviser many years. In 1980, he retired as cost estimator for Owens-Illinois Glass Co. of Godfrey, after 43 years of service. He owned and operated Forester Trailer Sales in Altonfor 17 years.
Born in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Ruth (Noon) Olive.

He married the former Helen Baits Jan. 21, 1939, in Greenville, and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Corbin of Wentzville, Mo.; a son, Steve Olive of Alton; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Murle and Haden Olive; and a sister, Amy Gidel.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday by the Revs. Dennis Goodell and Ted Rhodes.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Edwardsville.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
