Mrs. Grace Olive Johnson Beemer passed away April 8, 1992 at the Bedford Manor Care Facility in Bedford at the age of 92 years, one month and 24 days.

Grace was born in Taylor County, a daughter of Lewis L. and Olive Patterson Johnson on February 14, 1900. She spent her entire life in Taylor County.

On March 20, 1918, she was married to Homer Johnston Beemer. They had two children, Elvin Homer of Bedford and Marjorie Grace who lives in Columbia, S. C.

Mrs. Beemer was an active and constructive member of this community all her life. She became a member of the Oak Hill Church in 1914 and was affiliated with the Gravity Methodist Church from infancy. She served as president of the Oak Hill Aid Society and was also president of the Gravity Methodist Church Aid society. Grace was president of the Taylor County American Legion Auxiliary for two years and served as secretary-treasurer for five years. She also served on the Taylor County Welfare Board for several years and was on the Taylor County Election Board for 30 years.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer in 1981, three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children Elvin and his wife, Margaret; Marjorie Newman and her husband, Pete; seven grandchildren, Chris Beemer of Arkansas City, Kan., Britt Beemer of Orlando, Fla., Chad Beemer of Bedford, Dr. Forest Newman of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Roger Newman and Dr. Mark Newman, both of Charleston, S. C., and Susan Newman Appenzeller of Columbia, S. C., also 15 great grandchildren: Christa, Judson, Alan, Andy and Aric Beemer, Ned and Matt Appenzeller, Stephanie, Meredith, Andrew, Bryan, Taylor and Sarah Newman, two step grandchildren, Matthew and Gregory; a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mrs. Beemer was a kind and loving wife, mother and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held at the Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in Bedford on April 11, 1992 at 10 a. m. conducted by Rev. Carl Cummings. Interment was in Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa.
