HITCHCOCK - Virgil "Woody" Wood, 69, of Hitchcock died Wednesday at his residence.

Services are 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church of La Marque, with the Rev. Ron Clark officiating.

Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.

Visitation is after 8 a.m. today at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque.

Born Nov. 2, 1921, in Port Lavaca.

Mr. Wood was a retired operator and product handler for Union Carbide. He was a member of First Christian Church of La Marque and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of La Marque, El Mina Shrine of Galveston, and the Carbide Pioneer Club. He had resided in Hitchcock since 1956.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Wood of Hitchcock; two sons, Roger Wood of Texas City and Carey Wood of La Marque; three sisters, Margaret Smith of Hurst, Clara Robertson of Anton and Ella Elkins of Lubbock; a brother, Woody Wood of Lovington, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Max Burris, Joe Parker, Boots Roberts, Pat Nickerson, Cotton Phelps, Jody McCoy, and Chris Wood.
