Sidney Lycurgus Daily was born Jan.23,1847 in Bartholomew Co. Indiana, the son of Reverend Allen Wiley Daily and Mary Frances Coleman Daily.
The family moved to Iowa at some point in 1855 and by 1860 are found living in Leon, Decatur Co., Iowa. Sidney is listed as 12 years of age.
He enlisted as an 18 yr. old recruit (or so he stated. He was actually 16 yrs. old) on Sept.21,1863 at Davenport, Iowa in Co. F, 5th Iowa Infantry. He was consolidated Aug.8,1864 and transferred Sept.18,1864 to Co. G, 5th Iowa Cavalry. He was mustered out at Nashville, Tn. on Aug.11,1865.
He filed for an invalid pension on Sept.26,1866 and received certificate # 250.988.
In the 1880 Federal Census he is found living in his father's household at Leon, Iowa and is listed as a 33 yr. old book agent.
He married Miss Frances May Wilson on May 18,1882 at St. Paul, Minn. and was living at Humeston, Iowa on March 22, 1883 when his son, Albert Eugene was born.
He entered the National Veteran's Home in Leavenworth, Ks. on Sept.13,1913 where he lists his age as 66, a widower with son Albert living in Kansas City, Mo. He was released at his own request on Oct.3,1919.
Sidney is found on the 1930 Federal Census as an 83 yr. old living in Kansas City, Mo.
Sidney died on Jan.19,1935 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He is listed as being buried in Humeston Cemetery, Richman Twsp., Wayne Co., Iowa in a 1961 publication of the Wayne Co. Historical Society. However, another source indicates he was buried Jan.23, 1935 in an unknown cemetery in Kansas City, Johnson Co., Kansas.
