Fannie married Amos J. Stillwell on November 15th 1870 in Indiana. The Stillwells had four children: Mary "Mollie", Edith, Harold and Erle. Mr. Stillwell had one son from his first marriage, Richard.

In the early morning hours of December 29th 1888, Amos J Stillwell was axed to death while sleeping in his bed at his home in Hannibal, Missouri. Mrs. Stillwell and their two sons were sleeping in the same room in another bed when the murder occurred. Before Mrs. Stillwell fainted she had a family friend, Dr. Joseph C. Hearne summoned. Fannie and Dr Hearne would later marry on December 19th 1889. The couple moved to California.

The Hearnes were indicted in Missouri for the murder of Amos J. Stillwell in 1895 and were later acquitted.

By 1905, Dr. Hearne had married again at Fort Collins, Colorado.
