Alfred Randolph Baker was born August 25, 1885 in Batesville, Zavala County, Texas to Thomas Gillispie Baker and Melverdia Jane Bates. He stood 6ft. 1-in. tall, had blue eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion. Alfred worked as a laborer. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER from October 3, 1906 until 1909.

He served as a private in Company A and transfered to Company B, November 27, 1908. He was discharged. He was a peace officer, then enlisted in the REGULAR RANGERS from July 24, 1910 through November 1910 as a private in Company B.

He resigned or was fired. He again was a peace officer, in Harlingen, Cameron County, Texas. Alfred once again enlisted as a REGULAR RANGER from September 12, 1911 to October 23, 1912, as a private in Company B. Again, he resigned.

Next, he worked as a deputy constable, in Cameron County, from 1910 to 1911. He was then a deputy sheriff in Val Verde County, Texas, in 1913. He applied to become a mounted Customs inspector at Eagle Pass, April 1913.

Alfred then worked as a ranch manager, at Cuatro Cienegas, Coahuila, in Mexico, ca. 1917. In 1930, he was a deputy sheriff of Hidalgo County, living in Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. Ranger Alfred Randolph Baker, Ranger Frank Patterson Baker, and Ranger Joseph Eugene Baker were all brothers.

Alfred Randolph Baker died October 4, 1950, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Alford Randolph Baker was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Edinburg, Hidalgo County Texas, beside his wife, Lillian Jones Baker. (by Nancy E. Brown)
