Mr. Baker died Monday, July 31, at Traylor Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Denson Baker of Lineville; two sons, Dr. L. Dwight Baker Jr. of Dothan and Jerry Albert Baker of Birmingham; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a stepson, Greg Denson of Lineville; two step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and two cousins.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Irvin, Spec Bonner, B. Jones, Jerry Cotney, George Robinson and David Denton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church.
Mr. Baker was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Roanoke and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Baker was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa. He was an employee of Alabama Power Company for several years, and when his father died he took over his shoe sales and repair business. For 40 years he operated Baker's Shoe Shop until his retirement. Mr. Baker was a faithful member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church. He was very devoted to his family and
grandchildren. Following his retirement, he enjoyed watching baseball, traveling and fellowship with friends.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Carter and Myrtice Chewning Baker; and his first wife, Mae Harris Baker.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Roanoke.
