Gottfried Gackle was born January 3, 1886, in Romania. He came to this country with his parents, also the Gottfried Gackles, when they emigrated to a farm at Fredonia ND. He homesteaded, himself, in what was then the Watkins community, near Brockway. He married Christina Kalmbach in Miles City in 1914, and they farmed in the area until retiring in 1958. Mrs Gackle passed away in January 1972 and he went to live with a daughter, then moved to Prairie Manor for a year and half. He passed away at the Manor on November 12, 1978.

Survivors include three, sons, Oscar and Howard, both of Brockway, and Alvin of Terry; three daughters, Elenora Habel of Auburn WA, Cynthia Gackle of Miles City, and Alma Gackle of Terry; two brothers, Otto of Velva ND and Dan of Aberdeen SD; two sisters Elfie Wagner of Ellendale ND, and Pauline in SD; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
