Spc. William R. Sturges of Spring Church, Pennsylvania was a 1998 graduate of Lenape High School where he studied computer science and programming. He attended Elderton High School. He met his future wife at a vocational school in Armstrong County, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, and they married in 2000. Deida was already in the Army, while Bill transferred from the National Guard into the Army. He enlisted in the Army after graduation arriving at Fort Hood, Texas, in June 2003 and were deployed separately to Iraq. He was deployed to Iraq in September 2003. His wife shipped out around that same time. The couple have a son and Bill also has a 4-year-old son. Bill was an indirect fire infantryman and his wife, Spc. Deida Sturges, was serving in Iraq as an Army medic. He was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, Vandergrift. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, bowling, hiking, boating, camping and spending time with his family. He was died at age 24 from injuries sustained in a car-bomb attack in Khalidiya, Iraq. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William R. and Elsie M. Sturges.
