From the Sewickley Herald, June 23, 1917. "An Outburst of Active Patriotism". This letter written during the war of 1812, described war conditions in this district at that time, which afford an interesting comparison with what we are going through now. The letter is part of a collection of family papers belonging to Mrs. Ezra P. Young. Washington, PA, Sept. 1st, 1812.
Dear Mother, It is with pleasure I acknowledge the receipt of yours by Mr. Landis, which afforded me much satisfaction to find you well. I have now the pleasure of informing you that Jemima was on Saturday evening last safely delivered of a young daughter and as yet her and it seems to be doing well, it is reckoned to be a very fine child and very handsome, the old women say it is just like its Daddy -- it appears to be very good, has its features and health which I think is a great blessing." Anderson The child mentioned as having been born in 1812 was Margaret Clark Anderson who with the family moved to Sewickley bottom (now Leetsdale) in 1825.
