A memorial celebration of life for Carl M. Cummings, 58 of Washington will be held Wednesday, August 21 at 10:30 AM at the Brighton 1st Church of God, with Pastor Ryan Meader officiating. Following a luncheon at the church burial will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20 from 5 – 8 PM at the National Guard Readiness Center, located across from HyVee in Washington. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established. Carl M. Cummings died Friday, August 16, 2013 at his home in Washington. The Beatty Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carl Michael Cummings, Sr, was born February 3, 1955 in Gary, Indiana the son of Carl Theodore and Catherine (Joiner) Cummings. He attended Portage Senior High in Portage, Indiana, and attained his GED at San Deigo Community College. Mike joined the United States Marine Corp in 1973 and served until 1976 when he joined the Marine Corp Reseves, and served until 1979. He was a member of the Iowa and Indiana Army Guard for 4 years. On November 14, 1992 he was united in marriage to Katherine "Kitty" (Schnoebelen) Humphrey in Las Vegas, Nevada. Most recently Carl worked as a truss builder at Engineered Building and Design in Washington. He held multiple jobs in the past including construction, semi truck driver, deck hand on a shrimp boat and a mechanic. Carl was a member of the Brighton 1st Church of God and was currently serving as a trustee. Carl was a proud member of the American Legion Post #29 and the American Legion Riders Chapter #29 and was currently the Sergeant at Arms for the Legion Riders. Carl enjoyed woodworking, ceramic painting, fishing, hunting, collecting pigs and family activities.

Surivors include his wife Kitty of Washington, two sons; Carl Michael Cummings, Jr of Ellettsville, Indiana, Jospeh Lee Cummings of Kingston, Georgia, step children; Christina Null of Washington, Iowa, Virginia (Eric) Bagwell of Washington, Iowa, Tracy Humphrey of West Branch, Iowa, Douglas (Kristin) Humphrey of Georgia, James Humphrey of Washington, Iowa, 27 grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sisters; Barbara Sudiekis of Valpraiso, Indiana, Kathy (James E.) Steele of Kirksville, Missouri, and Patricia (Bruce) Jansen of Hobart, Indiana and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and extended adopted family.

Preceding Carl in death were his parents, one sister; Carol Odgen, his first wife; Lawana Taylor, a granddaughter; Shyra LeAndrea Null and his father and mother in law; Kenneth and Virginia (Mepham) Schnoebelen.
