1921 ~ 2013
On August 16, 2013 Joseph Paul Kingdon our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great Great Grandpa, friend and hero died peacefully at home with his daughters by his side.
He was born September 28,1921 to Joseph Adam and Clarice Saville Kingdon in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School where he excelled in sports. He was
an airplane mechanic at Hill Field Air Force Base during the war. He married Hazel Jean Davis in 1943 after her death he married Renee Burton on June 28, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they raised seven children.
The world became a little less bright without this remarkable man in it. To know him was to love him and oh how he was loved. His family was his life and you would seldom see him with out them. They did everything together from camping, fishing, trips to Lake Powell on the houseboat, his dream cabin at Flaming Gorge and family vacations. He was an avid bowler well into his 80'S, a renowned fast softball pitcher well into his 50's and the biggest Utah Jazz fan ever, he rarely missed a game. He was a wonderful Scout Master in his younger years and remained life long friends with some of them. He was a proud man and was generous to a fault. He was always there for anything you needed, whether it be monetary, physical, emotional or just a friendly shoulder. He was the epitome of unselfishness, giving, loving, caring and kindness. It's impossible to sum up the man he was in a few mere words. He owned and operated Kingdon Sheet Metal a business started by his father that he eventually took over and made it the business it is today. Amazingly he was still working at 90. It was truly his pride and joy and you would be so lucky to be the recipient of one of his tours of the shops! He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth, Miriam, Tess and his sweet little grandson Christopher Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife Renee, daughter's Penny (Glen) Reid, Nancy Kingdon, Jolene (Larry) Hardy, Debbie (Chuck) Shurtliff, Sheri (Ron) Lloyd and son Scot (Marnie) Kingdon. 28 grandchildren, 35 1/2 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery located at 3401 S Highland Dr. A viewing will take place Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at 10:00 a.m. preceding the services. His legacy will go on in each and every one of us and what a beautiful legacy to carry on!
