SHELBY — Mrs. Kathryn Spake Lucas, 84, of 1261 Spake Circle, died Saturday, August 20, 2005, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she graduated from Shelby High School Class of 1938. She retired after 37 years from Southern Bell Co. She worked as a chief clerk of the traffic department and retired in the plant department.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Jacky Stone Sunday School class and Sue Hudson Bible Study Group. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion Auxiliary, Warren F. Hoyle Post 82, a member and past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 4066, Volunteer for the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association and the American Red Cross where she served on the board of directors and donated many gallons of blood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Clara Camp Spake.
She is survived by a husband of 62 years, Morris L. Lucas; a son, Walker Lee Lucas of the home; a daughter, Nancy Lucas of Shelby; a sister, Claudia Dedmon Borders of Shelby and several loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
