She was the only child born to her military family enjoyed many summers with her Granny Vaughn and cousins. She was "Scoot" to her Daddy and "Susie" to her husband.

She graduated with honors from Towers High School in 1972, and before heading on to higher education, met the love of her life. The two having been set up on a blind date by her future father-in-law, fell instantly in love that night and he told his mom, "I met the girl I am going to marry". That statement came true 17 days later when the two became engaged at Underground Atlanta, and wed 45 days after that. Her husband was quoted as saying, "No one was more perfect for me. I would not change a thing, except to add days to our perfect 41 years. Susan began working while he completed his degree from the school of forestry at the University of GA, and upon graduation the two moved to Amicalola Falls State Park where he became a park ranger. It was on top of this mountain where she and her husband brought their son and only child into the world. The birth of a child brought a move to Atlanta for the couple where Susan began working in the education field as an administrative assistant. She met many friends and touched many lives working at Clayton State College, Institute of Paper Science and Technology and finally the Southern Region Educational Board.

Her hobbies were limited, as she was more interested in supporting those around her in their endeavors. Fall Fridays and eventually Saturdays would be consumed by football, as she was the best team mom and cheerleader a football team ever had.

She loved the outdoors, and would spend many afternoons in her yard. When her son married his high school sweetheart, she eventually became Nana to her four grandchildren and gained the loving daughter she never had. Their relationship grew to be very strong and she would want everyone to know she had a daughter as well as a son.

She and her husband maintained a God-centered home, and she modeled love and compassion to her family. She considered her greatest achievement to be her family.

If you knew her, you knew her love of animals. Never once was the home without an animal running around. From dogs to cats to goats and chickens. Her pets became part of her family and she consumed her life with her family.

Her beautiful life was cut short by pancreatic cancer to go home to be with the Lord.

She was a devoted lady to her family and her devotion extended to her friends as she was the finest friend a person could have. She shared her devotion to God with her family and friends and they take consolation in knowing they will see her again one day in Heaven. To sum up her life in three words would be easy, as it is a description that would make her proud...Wife, Mom and Nana.
