"Funeral Services Held for Mrs. J.E. Thompson
Mrs. Anna Marie Thompson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Duea, was born in the west edge of Roland on May 16, 1883, and passed away in Los Angeles, Calif., Tuesday morning, August 18, 1953, at the age of 70 years, three months and two days.

After graduating from the Roland high school in 1899, she attended the Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls for two years, and later Jewell Lutheran college, from which she was graduated. She taught for several years in various schools in Story county.

She was united in marriage to John E. Thompson on August 27, 1913. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Joyce Thompson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Arlene Macciaro of Chicago, Ill., and one son Talmage Thompson of Ames.

The remains were brought to Roland for burial and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Erickson Funeral Home and at Salem Lutheran church, with Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Don H. Boyd sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "The Old Rugged Cross," at the church.

Pall bearers were Knut Mehus, E. B. Christian, Arthur Britson, Sam J. Nelson, Bert Britson, and Victor Duea. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery."
