Broadus Bailey Dobson, 88, a lifelong resident of Greer, went to be with the Lord August 17, 2013.

Born August 29, 1924, to Alvin Charles and Irene Bailey Dobson, Broadus graduated from Greer High and attended Clemson University. He was the owner of BB Dobson Used Cars for over forty-five years. He served as a Greer city councilman for 16 years and was committed to his hometown.

Broadus was a devoted life-long member of Memorial United Methodist Church. He demonstrated his love for his church through his service. He was a faithful member of the Ballenger-Duncan Sunday School Class, a lay speaker, active in mission work, and served on numerous committees. In the days before his passing he was presented the United Methodist Church, Special Mission Recognition Award by the United Methodist Women.

Broadus's life was a testament to his conviction: "Service to humanity is the best work of life. It gives me meaning and purpose."

In addition to his parents, Broadus was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Bill, Nell, Charles, Doris and Dickey.

Broadus is survived by his wife, Katherine Heidt Dobson, the love of his life for over 67 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters and one son, all residents of Greer: Kathy (Philip) Johnston, David (Sylvia) Dobson, Suzanne (Dean) Cuplin, Patti (Tommy) Simmons.

He was Papa to his eight grandchildren: Jennifer Dorn, Andy Johnston, Katie Jeter, Tricia Morris, John Barbrey, Rebecca Barbrey, Thomas Simmons and Patrick Simmons; and three great-grandchildren: Zachary Dorn, Duncan Jeter and Olivia Morris.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Joseph Curtis, Rev. John Rush and Rev. George Strait. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.

Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary escort will be the Ballenger-Duncan Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at The Wood Mortuary.

The family is at the home of his son, David Dobson, 204 Drace Avenue, Greer, SC 29650.
