Buddy Gray

RICHMOND COMMUNITY – Elroise "Buddy" Gray, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Germantown Methodist Hospital. He was born June 13, 1931, to Lucine Christian Gray and Archie Samuel Gray.

Buddy married Sarah Williams on March 18, 1951. Together they raised three daughters.

He was the oldest active member at Evergreen Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for the past fifty years.

He attended Itawamba County Schools and worked for Tupelo Manufacturing Company for sixty years, retiring at age eighty.

An avid Mississippi State fan, he lived to watch his grandson, Caleb, play travel baseball. His last games to attend were in July in Orlando, Florida at the USSSA Elite World Series at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

Buddy is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Sarah Gray; three daughters, Patti Rowan of the Richmond Community, Mitzi Bridges (Jim) of Germantown, Tennessee and Vicki Goddard (Larry) of Tupelo; two granddaughters, Melissa Metcalfe and Melinda McKnight of Palmetto; one grandson, Caleb Gray Goddard of Tupelo; three great-granddaughters, Hannah McKnight, Katie Linley and Megan Linley of Palmetto; two step-grandsons, Jeremy Bridges (Marsha) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Shane Bridges of Harrison, Arkansas; seven step-grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Allison, Alex, Katlyn, Taylor, and Addison Bridges; one sister, Mayola Robinson (Kutah); one brother, Wayne Gray (Agnes) all of Fulton; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Williams of Richmond Community and Ruby Gray of Dorsey; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Christi Gray; one infant granddaughter, Christi Gray Goddard; his parents; one sister, Sandra Dulaney; four brothers, Coy, Douglas, J.T. and James Oye Gray; two brothers-in-law, Benny Williams of Richmond Community and John Rheaume of Bartlett, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Burma Rheaume of Bartlett, Tennessee.

A celebration of Buddy's life will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Mike Yielding, Bro. Mike Todd and Bro. Bobby Robbins officiating. Special music will be by his son-in-law, Larry Goddard and harpist, Cindy Mathis. Family reflections will be given by his son-in-law, Jim Bridges. A graveside and interment will follow at Walton Cemetery in Peppertown.
Pallbearers will be Marty Gray, Mitchie Gray, Jake Gray, Cebron Gray, J.C. Holloway and Jeffrey Holloway.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Phil Mathis, Dr. Rickey Parker, Rickey Reynolds, Perrin Snipes, Randy Snipes, Bill Reeves, Roy Norris, Dale Cox, Larry McTune and Cleve Hall.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m., today, August 19, 2013, at the funeral home.
