Fred J Sackman was born in Ashley ND, December 31, 1907, the son of Jacob and Salomena Maier Sackman and received his schooling in a small country school near there.
He moved to Montana with his family at age 15 and worked on various farms including Ed Bright's. He also worked for Emil Brost who owned a bulk gas station and sold machinery parts. In 1935 he went to Lodi CA to work in the vineyards for an uncle. During the depression he worked for the Resettlement, building government dams and ditches on the Buffalo Rapids Project.
December 9, 1938 he married Freeda Sackmann at Plevna. They farmed and ranched on Fallon Flat until their retirement in 1983. They moved to Terry in 1990, where they have since resided.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, supporting them in church, school and community activities.
Mr Sackman, 94, died June 5, 2002 at Miles City Holy Rosary Healthcare. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Arlene (Jerry) Morast, Fallon; six sisters, Emma Knopp, Canton KS, Connie Burns, Seattle WA, Barbara Patterson, Powell WY, Esther Sackman and Rachel Ruff, Billings, and Max (Chuck) Guidice, Miles City; a brother, Ben (Carrie) Sackman, Billings; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Sackman, Fresno CA, and Barbara Sackman, Fallon; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
