Lawrence Earl was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to the late Earl and Barbara Mann. He graduated from Tonkawa High School, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and then Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He received a Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. His internship was at Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He married Helen Arnett on August 27, 1950, in Idabel, Oklahoma. He and his family moved to Paris, Texas, in 1958 where he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 35 years. He later joined the Emeritus Medicus, Temple, Texas
He was a member of the Central United Presbyterian Church, Paris, Texas, for 42 years where he served as an Elder and clerk of Session and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a past president of the Lamar Delta Medical Society and past president of the staff of McCuistion Regional Medical Center, Paris. He was a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Medical Association, and was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Mann enjoyed private flying for many years and was a member of the Flying Physicians. He served as the Aviation Medical Examiner for pilots in the Lamar County area, and also served two terms as chairman of the Paris Airport Advisory Board. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
In 2000, Lawrence and Helen moved to Temple, Texas, where they joined Grace Presbyterian church on their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children present. He was a member of the Presbyterian Men and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Lawrence and Helen traveled extensively together. He had a passion for gardening and woodworking in his "shop". He and Helen inspired their children to value faith and family foremost. For 40 years, Dr. Mann delivered newborn babies into the arms of new mothers and was delivering the second generation when he retired.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; daughters, Carol Mann Lynch and husband, Dr. V. Michael Lynch, of Temple, Texas, and Barbara Mann Eubank and husband, Donald Eubank, of Dallas, Texas; son, Wayne Arnett Mann and Holly Beachley Brear, of Culpepper, Virginia; grandchildren "The Special 7", Kelly Elizabeth Lynch, David Mann Lynch and wife, Emily, Lesley Ellen Lynch, Kristen Mann Timson and husband, Patrick, Kyle Barnes Mann, Lauren Arnett Berryman and husband, Ben, and Christopher Thomas Eubank; and great-grandchildren, Oliver David Lynch, Molly Rose Lynch, and Lafayette Henderson Lynch.
