The real Baroness DeWitz, played bit parts at the Great Northern in Copenhagen in 1912 before signing with US Producer David Horsley. Later she switched to the Thanhouser company who featured her in exotic melodramas partially filmed in Jacksonville, Fla. William Fox lured her over to his company with promises of star billing and heavy promotion. Sadly this all failed and Valkyrien sued him for $25,000. The outcome of the suit is lost to history but she was through as a star. Valkyrien played supporting roles opposite Clara Kimball Young and was featured in a few very low-budget independent films. Leaveing films in favor of the Ziegfeld Follies, Valkyrien showed up in hollywood in 1927 with hopes of reviveing her career. That failed and she retired permanenty. Her personal life faired much better....she had two sons. One which found became a famous artist whose works hang in museums around the world. Later she married New York industrialist Robert Otto with whom she had another child, Jean Otto.
Her 20 films are considered partly lost with one known to be at the Danish Film Institute.
