Robert Vann, Sr. started his blessed life on June 21, 1933 to Cooley Vann and Vera Marshall in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent his early life. In 1954, he enlisted to the United States Army for two years as a cook. This is where his passion for the culinary arts flourished.

He came to Los Angeles, CA shortly after and started his career as a chef at Steven's Steakhouse where he held this position for over 50 years. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family and attending the Horse Races.

Robert Vann, Sr. was called to rest on July 24, 2013. Those who preceded him in death are his parents: Cooley Vann and Vera Marshall and 6 siblings: Ronnie Vann, Donnie Vann, Obie Vann, Elmer Vann, Glenn Vann and Dolores Vann.

He leaves to cherish his legacy: his wife Edwina Lindsey and four children: Roberta Vann, Robert Vann, Jr., Lynn Vann, and Carla Vann. Also left with precious memories are his three brothers Lorenzo Vann, Luther Vann, Walter Vann, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
