Ary, the fourth child born to John Nicholson and his wife Ruth Wright Nicholson, was born in March of 1828 in Ohio. The Nicholsons moved to Vermilion County from Ohio sometime between Ary's birth and the 1830 census.

Ary married Lewis Stevens on January 18, 1844, in Vermilion County, Illinois. Ary and Lewis lived on Hawbuck Creek in the Grape Creek area of Vermilion County. They were the parents of eight known children.

Mrs. Lizzie Stevens, widow, 85 years old, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Nancy Winland, near Kellyville, Saturday morning. Funeral announcement will be made at another time.
