Charles Winston Allen, 82 and of Linton, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. Born Feb. 26, 1919, in Greene County, he was the son of Elmo and Mary Irene (Smith) Allen. He was co-owner and operator of Allen's Motel and worked at General Electric Plant for 10 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Linton Church of Christ; Linton Masonic Lodge 560 F&AM; and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. He played Whimpy the Clown for many years with the Shrine Circus. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia L. Carpenter of Linton; one brother, Loren Allen of Houston, Texas; one sister, Barbara Murdock of Linton; nephew, Auddress Enochs, who was raised in his home; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Esta Louise (Enochs) Allen on May 26, 1988; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one brother; two sister; and his parents. Funeral services will be at Anderson-Poindexter Linton Memory Chapel at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the Bro. Virgil Bland officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
