Swedish Lutheran pastor who emigrated to America in 1853. He served in Chicago, Illinois from 1853 to 1875 and then Andover, Illinois until 1887. He was president of the Augustana Synod from 1881 to 1888; business manager of Augustana College and Seminary, Rock Island, Illinois from 1887 to 1889, also being president of their board of directors from 1860 to 1889. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by Augustana College in 1892 as well as being the editor of "Missionaeren".
