Jimmy Lynn Palmer, 59, Decatur, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Westview Acres Care Center in Leon, Iowa. He was born April 21, 1950, in Leon, Iowa, the son of James Raymond Palmer and Dicia Evelyn (Smith) Palmer. Jimmy started out farming with his dad along with working for other farmers in the area picking up bales. He worked for Clarence Board at the Hyde Plant for a short time and then went to work for E. I. Sargent Quarries Inc. in 1973, which was later taken over by Martin Marietta. Following his time there he did part-time farming for a few years in the Decatur area. He had also helped his uncle, Raymond Smith with dozer work. His interests through the years included car racing, go carts, motorcycles, snow mobiles, four wheelers, garden tractor pulls, flying model airplanes, using his cutting and welding torch for various projects, and flying with Mike Courtney in his airplane. Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vern and Olive Palmer, Jim and Leone Smith; aunts, Maxine Palmer, Ruth Palmer, Frances Carson, Lois Smith, Helen Smith; uncles, James and Raymond Smith. He is survived by his parents Raymond and Evelyn Palmer of Leon, IA; 2 daughters, Stacie (Eddie) Ury of Blythedale, MO and Denise (Tom Arnold) Simmons of Macksburg; 5 grandsons, Kayden and Karsyn Ury of Blythedale, MO; Corbin, Mason, and Thane Simmons of Macksburg, IA; aunts and uncles, Karen (Joe) George of Corydon, IA; Bob Smith of Leavenworth, KS; Hazel Smith of Decatur, IA; Don Carson of Osceola, IA; Robert, Harold, Wayne Palmer all of Leon, IA; Christine Smith of Huxley, IA; Carrel Palmer of Garden Grove, IA as well as many other relatives. At Jimmy''s request he will have his remains scattered over the family farm east of Leon. An informal Memorial Service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, December 6, 2009 starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Barnum Community Building in Decatur, Iowa. Lunch will be provided follow the service. Cremation Society of Eastern Central Western Iowa is assisting the family.
