CARROLLTON, VA. - Roy Carl Newman, 80, went peacefully to be with our Lord Saturday, July 28, 2012.
A native of Watertown, Wis., he was an area resident for the past 44 years. Mr. Newman retired from the U.S. Air Force as a captain at Langley AFB in 1977, with 23 years of service, transferred to the reserves and retired as a major. He also retired as an internal auditor from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1997. Roy was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Hampton, enjoyed his membership in the German-American Society, and spending time with his beloved pets.
Preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Stanisch; and grandson, Michael Newman Jr., he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Renate E. Newman of Carrollton; two sons, Bob Newman and his wife, Robyn, and Mike Newman, all of Newport News; two daughters, Linda Robinson and her husband, David of Carrollton, and Tina Greer and her husband, Gary of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Jason, Renate, Rachel, Stefanie, Zach, Alex, and Connor; seven great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted by Joe Reiss and Todd Krenzer at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at the Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, in Suffolk, with full military honors.
The family would like to thank Jessica and Jamie Lynn, of Riverside Hospice, for their loving care of Mr. Newman.
