MarLa contributor #48020220 kindly shared David's obituary published in the Caldwell Leader on July 26, 1911 as follows.

"David Bates, formerly of Noble County, died at his home at Byesville last Friday evening from dropsy. The deceased was born at Bates Hill, February 13, 1853 and is survived by his wife and four children. The funeral was held from St. John's church, Wayne Township, Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Dunn, and burial was made in the nearby cemetery."

MarLa also shared the obituary published in the Caldwell's Noble County Register on July 26, 1911.

"David Bates died at his home in Byesville, Saturday morning July 22, 1911, after a lingering illness from dropsy. His wife and four children survive. Three children are deceased. The funeral was held at St. John's church, near Kennonsburg, Sunday afternoon, and was in charge of the Rev. Mr. Dunn. Interment was made at the Bates Hill cemetery. Deceased was a cousin of County Commissioner Bethel Bates."

Note that David's death certificate says he is buried in St. John's cemetery as the first obituary implies, rather than Bates Hill Cemetery as stated in the second obituary.
