He followed in his father's footsteps by attending the Cincinnati School of Embalming and graduated in the fall of 1938. Upon graduation, he was allowed to sit for examination by the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers on Dec. 14, 1938. Mills Godwin for an appointment as a member of the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers. The board later elected him as president. He was a licensed funeral director for over 60 years in both Virginia and Tennessee.

DuVal was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, a life member and trustee of Pythagoras Masonic Lodge 239, A.F. & A.M., where he was an active member during the construction of its building, and assisted in the preparation of the History Pythagoras Lodge 239. He was a member of the Pulaski Elks Lodge 1067, a veteran of WWII, having served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, president of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, and a chairman of the Pulaski County Library Board during the construction of its building. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Laura King Harman Seagle; a son, Cloyd DuVal Seagle Jr.; a grandson, Christopher Harman Bushong, and a brother, Thomas Roswell Seagle.

He is survived by one son, Thomas Mason Seagle II of Pulaski; one daughter, Ruth Seagle Bushong of Dublin; three grandsons, Lee Bushong and Angela Kennedy of Jackson, Wyo., Jeremiah Seagle and his wife, Jamie, of Roanoke, and T.M. Seagle III and his wife, Tonya, of Sterling; granddaughter-in-law, Mary Bushong of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Madison Ruth Bushong, Catheryne Ann Gambill of Richmond, and Grady Harman Seagle of Roanoke, along with a niece and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, 2 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Melissa McNair-King officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, with military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday, 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
