Ethel A. Hoover, 94, of Rockford, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born June 30, 1904, in Pella, Iowa, daughter of Ardie and Gertrude (Kersbergen) Bloem. Married Marion J. Hoover on Aug. 20, 1935, in Chicago. She was a teacher and taught at Dakota-area schools, retiring in the early 1960s. Graduated from Pella High School in 1921. Received her teaching certificate at Central College, Pella. Also attended Illinois State in Normal. Member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Davis. Active in church activities. Member of Eastern Star, Davis, and Illinois and National Retired Teachers associations.
Survivors include husband, Marion sons Jim (Annette) Hoover of Roscoe and Larry (Christy) Hoover of San Jose, Calif. five grandchildren, Angie (Patrick) Cleaver of Davis, Jennifer (Brian) Motter of Plainfield, Ind., Ryan Hoover of Rockford and Brian Hoover and Nicole Hoover of San Jose, Calif. six great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth (John) Lapperre of Evanston. Predeceased by parents, one brother and one sister.
Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Calvary United Methodist Church, Davis, with the Rev. Sheila J. Wiegman officiating. Burial in Davis Cemetery. Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 115 S. West St., Dakota and 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. A memorial fund is being established in her name.
