Roy Evans Mashburn, Sr., age 78, of 3614 Wicker St. Ext. died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford with Dr. Rudy Holland officiating. Entombment will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.

Roy was born in Chatham County, N.C. on April 26, 1935, to the late Charles Milton Mashburn and Gertrude Melton Mashburn. He was preceded in death by sisters, Opal Dean and Wilma Martindale.

He is survived by a daughter, Connie S. Mashburn of Greensboro, N.C. and a son, Roy Evans Mashburn Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., with grandchildren, Callie Evans Mashburn and Samuel Walker Mashburn also of Raleigh, N.C.; a niece, Janet Kuykendall of Alamance County, N.C.; nephew, Douglas Martindale of Sanford, N.C., and a special uncle, Woodrow Mashburn along with many friends and relatives.

Marie Wheeler was a dear friend who faithfully worked with Roy for more than 35 years. Peggy Sprouse was Roy's best friend for more than 30 years. Cindy Rannells was his special friend for more than 20 years.

During Roy's life he was an automobile distributor and an independent gasoline distributor in several counties. Roy was a Texaco distributor in Lee County and later a Texaco distributor in Cumberland County. Also, Roy was an investor and commercial land developer. He was a silent philanthropist who was known to be politically active. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a graduate of Campbell University, and a member of the Carbonton United Methodist Church.
