Richard E. "Bud" Johnson, 88, of Grand Meadow, died at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center, Grand Meadow.

He was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the eighth of 14 children born to Andrew A. Johnson and Ida DeWinter Johnson. He moved with his family to the Wells and Alden area in 1920. He attended country schools through the eighth grade and moved to Clayton Township in 1941.

On March 1, 1943, he married Helen Hanson at the St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage in Austin. Together they farmed in the Clayton Township area until 1974, when they moved to Grand Meadow. During the 1950s and 1960s Bud also sold Trojan Seed Corn.

He was a member of Farm Bureau and served on the Clayton Township Board.

He was a resident at Grand Meadow Health Care Center for a short time.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, Grand Meadow; children, Wayne (Bonnie) Johnson, Taopi; Charolette (Wayne) Zimmerman, Glenwood; Lloyd "Gus" (Jan) Johnson, LeRoy; Linda Lecy, Spring Valley; Cheryl (Stephen) Fields, Mora; Kevin (Karen) Johnson, Harmony; Curtis Johnson, Austin; Marlys (Richard) Gerber, Adams; Randy Johnson, Grand Meadow; 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation: 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, July 14, 2003, at the funeral home and Tuesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Grand Meadow with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating.

Interment: Marshall Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams.
