Beatrice Helen Collins, 93, of Penney Farms, FL, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012. She was born on December 1st, 1918 in Memphis, TN to parents James and Rowena Collins of Long Beach.
She was a renowned organist and pianist and she will be dearly missed by her loving family and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, James R. Collins, Jr. and his wife Dora of Memphis, TN, and her nephew John Thomas Collins of Louisville, KY.
Survivors include her niece Betty Collins of Nashville, TN, and her nephews James R. Collins, III of Memphis, TN and Wm David Collins of King George, VA; 4 great nieces; 4 great nephews; 2 great-great nieces and 2 great-great nephews.
Beatrice received her bachelor's and master's degrees in church music at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. The majority of her professional career was as professor of organ at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
She also performed at numerous churches throughout the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coasts and in Europe.
After Hurricane Katrina demolished her Long Beach, MS, home, she retired to Penney Retirement Community.
A celebration of life memorial service is in the planning and will be held at the Penney Memorial Church, Penney Farms, FL in the near future.
A graveside service will be conducted at Forest Hills Midtown Cemetery Memphis, TN, on Saturday, September 29th at noon.
High Point Funeral Home, 3788 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122, 901-454-5795 will be handling her interment arrangements.
