Jacquelyn Abraham Parker died Friday August 16, 2013. Born July 16, 1927 in Kanosh, Utah.
She was the wife of Virgil Jon Parker, M.D., the daughter of James and Edna Hunt Abraham, and the mother of Heather Kieffer, Holly Parker Holst, Matthew Virgil Parker and Paul Jon Parker.
Her life's joy was her husband and her children, grandchildren and her new great granddaughter Jacqueline Parker. She loved and treasured them all (and her faith).
She was a graduate of the University of Utah -1949. She interned at the University of Michigan in foods and nutrition post-graduate studies.
She worked at the University of Utah Medical School in Metabolic Research as a research dietician from 1951-1965.
In 1961 she and her husband were co-founders of Camp Utada, a camp for diabetic children. They supervised camp as volunteers for 25 years.
With her husband, she served missions for the LDS church as the mission president's wife in Belgium Brussels Mission- 1975-77, as proselyting missionaries in Ghana and Zaire, Africa; and ,with Virgil, as health and medical advisors to the missions and missionaries of Western Europe, 2000-2002. She taught nutrition to hundreds of missionaries and medical students. She loved life! She lived fully. She was a great teacher. Her loud voice will be missed. She is a splendid mother and grandmother and example for good.
Jackie was committed to the Gospel and took her marriage vows seriously. Her home and garden wherever she lived were always gorgeous, spotless and organized. She was fearless and adventuresome and an avid traveler and trekker. Jackie read incessantly and was always acutely curious. She did not procrastinate but rather jumped in and got the task done. She served the City of Orem on the city council. She was active in community affairs serving on voting campaigns and working with Unicef. She was a giver not a taker, forever grateful and expressive of her gratitude. She had a beautiful singing voice. We love you Mom and will miss your stories, advice and letters filled with gratitude, advice, encouragement and news from home. We were lucky to have you as our mother. See you again soon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Lone Peak Ward LDS Chapel, 285 North Matterhorn Drive, Alpine. Friends and family may call from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Provo. In lieu of flowers, Jacquelyn and Virgil request that donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
