After graduating from Valley Stream High School, New York, she worked as a bookkeeper in the family business. On April 30, 1950, Ruth married Louis DePiro in Valley Stream, N.Y. The couple moved to Massapequa, N.Y., where Ruth became a full-time homemaker and mother to seven children — five sons and two daughters. Upon Lou's retirement in 1975, the couple moved to Nelson County.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Nancy), Gary, Paul (Kathi), Donald (Beth), and John (Najia); her daughters, Jean DePiro and Joyce (Tom) Pfiel; her brother, Donald Branker (Audrey); as well as 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Louis; and her sisters, Joyce Rudnick and Kathleen Rudnick.
A mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Holy Comforter Catholic Church, 208 East Jefferson St., Charlottesville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. George's Catholic Church in Scottsville, immediately following. A reception will be held at Our Lady of Peace in the DePiro Room following burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Our Lady of Peace, 751 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
