TIMPSON, TEXAS — Jerry Stevens, 75, of Timpson, Texas passed away at his home in Timpson, Texas, Monday evening, April 23, 2007.

Jerry was born in Galveston on June 11, 1931, the son of Ed Stevens and Leona Stihl Stevens. He attended Galveston Schools and was married to Sylvia Coker on February 26, 1949. He worked many years as a truck driver for the petroleum industry. Jerry was a longtime resident of La Marque, Alvin and Santa Fe, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star of both Timpson and La Marque and a member of the Mainland Elks Lodge 2141 in La Marque. He was involved with bringing Minor League Baseball to the La Marque area and help establish the Texas Freshman Baseball League. Jerry also was instrumental in starting the DeMolay for young men in La Marque. He will always be remembered by his family as a loving father, father-in-law and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Stevens; parents Ed and Leona Stevens; son Glenn Stevens; and brothers Harold and Malcolm Stevens.

Jerry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Judy and Glenn Brittain of Timpson, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Vicki Stevens of Santa Fe, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Margie Stevens of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sue and Jack Wilson of La Marque; five grandchildren Travis Stevens, Tyson Stevens, Burt Brittain, Laurie McClendon and Jake Brittain; four great grandchildren Jessica Brittain, Michael Brittain, Trac Hemphill and Hailey Hemphill.

Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday April 26, 2007, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, Texas. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, in the Chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, with Father Bob Flick, officiating. Following the service there will be graveside service to be conducted by La Marque Masonic Lodge #1325 AF & AM at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, Hitchcock, Texas

Pallbearers will be Travis Stevens, Tyson Stevens, John Stafford, Jr., Bruce Ware, Alton Crouch and Willard Chism. Honorary Pallbearer will be Glenn Brittain.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial be made to Timpson Eastern Star, c/o Jo Fleming, 12187 Co Rd. 3281 E, Garrison, Texas 75946.
