Joann Lyall Carroll, 76, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born September 22, 1935 in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Avery Lyall and Ada Mash Lyall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Coy Carroll; son, David N. Carroll; 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Mrs. Carroll was a member of Guiding Light Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Garry Carroll and wife Kathy of Hickory, NC; two daughters: Cathy Carroll Hilton and husband Latt of Granite Falls, NC, Sandra Carroll Lavery and husband Charlie of Newton, NC; 7 grandchildren: Shea Abernethy, Deidra Powell, Chance Carroll, Amanda Smith, Jamie Jenkins, Devina Clark, and Casey Crump, and 6 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. James McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
