Robert W. Gladney
July 13, 1921 – Jan 9, 2009

Robert W. Gladney left this world on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Navarro Regional Hospital to be in his heavenly home. He was born on July 13, 1921, in Boz.

Robert, known as "Bob" was very much involved with life in Corsicana where he practiced law for over 50 years. He was known as a man of honesty and integrity as he served his clients and helped many people whether or not they could pay. He practiced 10 years with his son, John; their firm being named Gladney & Gladney.

Bob was active in many community affairs serving on the school board from 1959 to 1972 and president from 1965 to 1968. He was a member of the Corsicana Lions Club over 50 years serving as president in 1964-1965. Just recently he received the "Jack Fellowship Award" for his generous contributions to the Lions Club.

He and four other directors were the original directors of Navarro Savings and Loan of which he served as president for many years. He was for 30 years a director of the Methodist Wesleyan Homes in Georgetown.

He cherished his membership in First United Methodist Church in Corsicana, serving many years as Sunday school teacher, usher, and on the board of the church. He loved his church dearly and the love and fellowship that he found there.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 33 months in the Pacific zone. Upon getting out of the Navy he joined the naval reserves and retired in 1966 as a commander of a naval unit in Tyler. He loved his friends and family dearly and will be desperately missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Alexander and the Rev. Steve Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bob Parrish, Gerald York, Sid Shutte, Gene McLain, Zane Stites, Elbert Prince and Jake Allen.

Mr. Gladney was preceded in death by his parents, Hughstraight and Florence Gladney; sisters, Sue Smith and Montel Duncan; and a wonderful grandson, Danny Gladney.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Gladney; son, John Robert Gladney; granddaughter, Laura Jo and husband Alex Lemon; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church at 320 N. 15th St., Corsicana, TX 75110.

Arrangements by Corley Funeral Home.
