Wayne passed away peacefully May 6th at 81 years with his family at his side, after a gallant battle against cancer and complications from pneumonia.
He was preceded in death by wife Anabelle and survived by their children, Lennea Thornton-Downs (husband Bill), son Vern Thornton Jr. (wife Rose), daughter Sara Pesola (husband Michael) and his beloved dog Missy. Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren Cory (wife Erica), Shelby (husband Daniel), Melodie and (Bobby). Also, his great-grandchildren Connor, Gracie and numerous 'granimals.'
Wayne retired from the USAF as MSgt. in 1978 after 26 years of honorable service, with combat duties in Korea and twice in Vietnam. After retiring, he worked for Sierra College Transportation Department; entrusted as a mechanic and bus driver for the SF 49ers during their championship reign.
