Pvt. Mellen Shepard Barnes; the brother of Elbridge volunteered for the 6th Minnesota Infantry on 2 March 1864. He was born 14 April 1847 in Springfield, Penobscot Co. Maine. In 1883 he and his family moved to Beaverton, Oregon. He was a framer and the State Representative for Washington County 1905-1906. He and his 2 widows are buried at the Union Cemetery, Cedar Mill.
