Mrs. Era C. Haston of Sherwood was born January 15, 1919 in Waynesboro, Tennessee to Uli and Lilly Clay. The family later moved to Mariana, Arkansas when she was six years old. Mrs. Haston is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John R. Haston (3/8/2000) and six siblings: brothers Talmadge, Leonard, Cranston, Ivan and Guy Clay; and her baby sister Edith Charlton. Mrs. Haston was a substitute school teacher during the War; completed cosmetology school; sewed, making clothes for family and doing alterations and making clothes for others for extra money. Later in her career, she became a lighting consultant for Arkansas Lighting and Supply, retiring when she married John Haston on June 9, 1973. After she retired, she helped John sell houses he built in Sherwood until his retirement in 1975. For several years, they traveled regularly to visit family, enjoyed the dog races, dancing and having younger friends over to laugh and eat. For many years, she was an active member in Extension Homemakers Club, holding various offices and raising funds for the Club. She belonged to First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Prior to joining First Baptist, she was a longtime member of Baring Cross Baptist Church. Mrs. Haston was sustained throughout her life by a profound faith in God and in her salvation. She taught Sunday School and knew the Bible, explaining and teaching her children and grandchildren about God’s love and the path to Salvation. Her family will remember their Mother as smart, witty, quick, talented in all she did, a great cook, loved to read, garden, fish and talk to her kids and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons: L.B. “Rob� Roberts, of Little Rock, Clay Carmack of Hot Springs, her daughters Judi Parker and Suzie Forrest, both of Suwanee, Georgia and daughter Barbara Swihart of Little Rock. Her Grandchildren: Tiffany Rizzo (husband Michael) of Dallas, Texas, Tony Carmack, of Sherwood, and Cynthia Swint, of Little Rock. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kyler Carmack age 7 of Cabot and Jonathan Rizzo age 2 of Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 6th, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR. 501.835.3515 with visitation on Monday April 5th, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
