Ethel Alice Wilkerson passed away at New Horizon's Care Center in Lovell, Wyoming on August 14, 2013.

Ethel was born to Alice and Joseph Williams on March 11, 1922 in Montevideo, Minnesota. She had four siblings: Floyd, Raymond, Frances, and Eva.

The family resided in Minnesota until Ethel was in 8th grade, when they relocated to Salem, Oregon. When Ethel was 20, she met and fell in love with Lovell native, Gene May Wilkerson, who was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington Army Base. They were married on March 6th, 1943 in Aberdeen, Washington. Gene was deployed overseas with the 88th Armored Division in November 1944. Ethel was pregnant with their first child at the time and continued to work and live in Aberdeen and Salem during his service.

When Gene completed his duty, he, Ethel, and their daughter made their home in Lovell, Wyoming, where their family grew to include 2 daughters and 2 sets of twin boys.

The family moved to Gillette in 1961. Ethel was a "stay at home" mom for many years, cooking, cleaning, and canning. She was a kind and patient person, who rarely raised her voice and never swore. She was a devout Catholic and practiced her faith all her life.

Ethel enjoyed meeting new people by selling Avon until her children were grown. Then she took a position at Decker's Food Center and worked until she and Gene retired in 1985. They returned to Lovell to build their retirement home, which she proudly furnished with the money she had earned herself. Ethel and her husband resided there until her declining health necessitated a move to New Horizon's Care Center on July 20, 2011.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond, sister Frances, husband Gene of almost 70 years, and step-grandson Ian.

She is survived by her 6 children and their spouses: Linda (John) Schroer of Casper, WY, Robert (Renee') Wilkerson of rural Powell, WY, Richard (Peg) Wilkerson of Pine Haven, WY, Terry (Jane) Wilkerson of Lovell, WY, Larry (Linda) Wilkerson of Gillette, WY, and Diane (Bill) Maki of Casper, WY. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by this large and loving family she created.

Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on August 19, 2013 with a viewing on August 18, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Burial will be in the Lovell Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.haskellfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Horizon's Care Center, 1115 Lane 12, Lovell, WY 82431.
