Lt. R. J. Farquhar Killed in Action Over Austria.
Listed Missing on Oct. 16;
Notice Received from German Govt., Delayed.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Farquhar, of 15 Pearl Hill road, received a telegram today from the war department stating that their son, First Lt. Raymond J. Farquhar, Jr., who was previously reported missing in action, was killed in action on Oct 16 over Austria.
Lt. Farquhar had been reported missing since Oct. 16 while serving on his 44th mission on a B-24 Liberator bomber, as a wing navigator. While serving with the 15th air force in Italy he was awarded the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster.
He entered the army air corps on June 12, 1942, and was assigned to Nashville, Tenn.
He received further training at Maxwell field, Montgomery, Ala., in Bainbridge, Ga., and at Selman Field, Monroe, La.
He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and received his silver navigator's wings at Selman field on Feb. 5.
He was promoted to the rank of first Lieutenant in September when he received the Air Medal award.
Lt. Farquhar was a graduate of St. Bernard's high school, 1938, and of State Teachers' college in 1942. While in college he was a member of the National Guard for one year.
Another son, James Farquhar, is serving as a private first class with the army, and recently left for overseas service. A daughter, Miss Marjorie Farquhar, has bee accepted for service training in the Cadet Nurse corps and will begin her studies in January.
