Sarah DeLashmutt, daughter of Peter L. DeLashmutt (born in Virginia) and his wife Esther (born in Illinois), was born in 1846 in Iowa.

In 1866 she was united in marriage to Elisha Starbuck a Civil War Vet. Sarah passed away in 1929 and was survived by her husband Elisha.

To this marriage were born 3 children: Gertrude "Gertie" Lydia born about 1868, Mary Esther "Essie" born abt. 1871 and Frances "Frankie" Sarah, born about 1875.

The Starbuck family made their home in Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa.

. . . . The following brief life sketch was read at the funeral service (for Sarah DeLashmutt Starbuck) by Rev. Stille, who added his personal eulogy of her character.

Sarah Louisa Starbuck, daughter of Peter Lindsey and Ester Hunt DeLashmutt was born at Eddyville, Mahaska Co., Iowa, in 1846. She came with her parents to Mills County in 1860 and resided at Pacific City for a short time when the following spring her father purchased a farm five miles south of Pacific Junction which place was her home until her marriage. It was while attending school in Pacific City, she became acquainted with Elisha Starbuck, who was her teacher.

October 13, 1866, she was married to Elisha Starbuck. After which they made their residence at Pacific City, where she assisted him in his school doing primary work. After Elisha Starbuck's admittance to practice law they located at Glenwood, Iowa, which has been their residence ever since. To this union three daughters were born, Mrs. M. J. Williams of Glenwood, Mrs. Chas. Follett of Malvern, Iowa, and Mrs. Frances Crookham of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Mrs. Starbuck passed away July 25, 1929, at the age of eighty-three years and ten days. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Hon. E. Starbuck, her three daughters, Gertrude, Esther and Frances, five grand children, Clifford Starbuck Williams, John Starbuck, Joe Carter, James Frances Crookham, and Gertrude Follett Colby, and five great grand children, Margaret, Gertrude, and Marshal James Williams, Chas. Frederick Colby and Frances Maryann Crookham.

Mrs. Starbuck also leaves five brothers, W. C. De Lashmutt of Glenwood, Ia., J. L. De Lashmutt of Decatur, Nebraska, E. N. De Lashmutt of Whiting, Iowa, D. W. De Lashmutt and J. V. De Lashmutt of Burwell, Nebraska.
