Norfolk-Oct. 29-In behalf of her many friends we would offer some tribute to the memory of Effie, daughter of Mark and Ellenor Alexander, who was born in Norfolk, Oct. 29, 1867, and died Oct. 5, 1888, at 1130 pm. She was a young lady of bright intellect and great energy, and but for poor health, would, no doubt, have won a place high in the rank of teachers, having chosen that profession. Where ever she had taught a school she had won many friends, not only in a social and musical tact, but by her earnest manner towards pupils, compelling them in a kindly way, to be workers too. But God seems to have had need of this kind daughter and sister. He knows why, best. In a few short weeks she was taken from among the living and we laid her away by the side of many another young life. Not often in a country cemetery are so many young girls laid to rest, as in this one where Effie lies. Many a mother, with aching hearts and streaming eyes, deck the graves of young and beautiful daughters, here. A very large number of acquaintances and friends, old and young , from near and far, gathered at the residence of Mrs. Alexander, Sunday, Oct. 7, to pay their respects, take the last look, and "weep with those that weep" by the side of the remains of Effie, who looked so peacefully beautiful in death. Rev. Barnes, of Norfolk gave a very kindly and sympathetic discourse from the text: "If there be any consolation in Christ."-Phil. 2, If Surely we that have lost friends, and who has not, know that there can be but ... to be found elsewhere.
