I did not find a marker for Leona Chessor when I transcribed the cemetery in 1999/2000. However, Ted and Jill Garrett listed her grave on November 7, 1965 as "____ldona (?), born 11 March 188_, died _____ (Carved on shaled fieldstone)." See "Hickman County, Tennesee Cemetery Records - Part 1" by Jill Garrett and Iris H. McClain. The listing for Leona Chessor appears after that for her sister Eliza Chessor.

Leona was the daughter of Jesse Adam Chessor and Amanda Emma "Mandy" Bates. According to "The Chessor Family History 1783-1993" by John Will Chessor, no one knows when Leona died or the cause of her death, but some think she died of spinal meningitis.

There are two small, badly worn square markers between the headstone for Jesse & Mandy Chessor and the marker for their daughter Belle. The inscriptions are illegible, but I assume that they mark the graves of Leona and her sister Eliza.
